Day 1: Sillar route in Arequipa (Half day)

For your tour of Arequipa, the tourist route takes place in the district of Cerro Colorado, less than an hour from the city of Arequipa. Visitors will be able to see up close how the ashlar is worked. Your trip to Arequipa cannot be complete without a visit to its sillar quarries. The tourist route takes place in the district of Cerro Colorado, 14 kilometers northeast of Arequipa (45 minutes by car). During the journey, you will not only have the opportunity to see how the main architectural material of the 'White City' is worked, but you will also appreciate impressive natural landscapes. Allows visitors to see the quarries of Añashuayco,Cutters and Shingles. The tour takes 4 hours. Although there is no recommended age to be part of the Ruta del Sillar ; It should be taken into account that there are continuous walks of up to 40 minutes to tour the quarries. In the Añashuayco quarry , for example, you will be able to see small sculptures, shields and many more pieces worked in ashlar. You will also see up close how the large stone blocks are extracted. The experience is complemented with a demonstration of cutting and carving a block of ashlar. This activity can also be done by tourists. Another stop is Culebrillas. Tourists will take a walk inside the ravine and will appreciate petroglyphs engraved on the cliffs. It is recommended that you wear sportswear, comfortable shoes and sunglasses for trekking.
